CREF nasce con la duplice anima di Centro di Ricerca e di Museo Storico, con l’intento di conservare e diffondere la memoria di Enrico Fermi, oltre che favorire un’ampia diffusione e comunicazione della cultura scientifica.
On July 9-11, the CREF will host the Complexity in Economics & Finance Workshop, a satellite meeting of the prestigious StatPhys29 (the international conference on Statistical Physics), as a joint event of the #FinEcoNets and Econophysics Colloquium workshop series.
Over the past decade and a half, a powerful synergy has emerged between statistical physics, complex systems science, and the intricate world of economics and finance. This fruitful interplay of basic research and real-world policy applications has provided invaluable insights into how our economic and financial systems function, evolve, and respond to shocks.
At CREF, we recognize the critical role of this interdisciplinary approach. Significant effort has been dedicated to unraveling the complex web of interconnections that bind economic and financial entities. Understanding how localized vulnerabilities can cascade through these networks, potentially leading to system-wide crises, is paramount. Furthermore, our research actively explores and develops strategies aimed at bolstering systemic resilience and promoting stability within these vital systems.
Leveraging the power of network analysis and complexity science, CREF researchers are also at the forefront of developing innovative methods to understand and even predict patterns of economic development and innovation. These approaches span multiple scales, from the broad macroeconomic trends shaping nations to the granular dynamics of individual firms. This progress is fueled by the ever-increasing availability of data on human activities, encompassing everything from production and knowledge creation to demographic shifts, labor market statistics, financial transactions, and evolving market trends.
Furthermore, CREF is deeply engaged in understanding the transformative impact of rapidly emerging digital technologies on our economic and financial landscapes. We are also committed to contributing to the societal goals of achieving more equitable, sustainable, and environmentally conscious growth through the lens of complexity science.
The workshop will offer the participants the opportunity to Discuss state-of-the-art research, share knowledge and insights across physics and economics, Forge novel collaborations with fellow experts.
