CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.
Higher education and projects for young researchers
In this first conference of the series “Intersections between Physics and History” organized by CREF, we invited Camilla Maiani – Head of Mediation at the Curie Museum in Paris – who guided us on a fascinating journey “through the Paris of the Curie family, between stories, discoveries, and political engagement.”
From the discoveries of natural and artificial radioactivity to the practical applications of Radium in the 1920s and 1930s, the narrative also explored the political commitment and values that characterized this extraordinary family of scientists.
The exchanges between the Joliot-Curie family and the group at Via Panisperna were crucial for the 1934 experiments and the birth of nuclear physics in Italy.
This collaboration between the Enrico Fermi Museum and the Curie Museum represents an important moment of dialogue and exchange between the two institutions, both guardians of the memory of those who once inhabited them.
The event is part of the initiatives of CREF’s Gender Equality Plan and among the events organized within the NET – scieNcE Together project, funded under the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-CITIZENS-01-01 program and carried out with Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions.
