CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.
Higher education and projects for young researchers
The CREF’s scientific activity is fully consistent with the objectives of the PNR 2021-2027, as is the corresponding three-year activity plan. Consequently, all the organisation’s structural projects have been designed to make a tangible contribution to the country’s development, in line with the PNR. In particular, many of the projects have a highly interdisciplinary and innovative character, are based on data-driven methodologies and have a strong international connotation. The scientific activity of some of them, such as the joint initiative with Sony CSL of Paris at the CREF, is mainly focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Together with the recent agreement with the United Nations University – Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT), these activities characterise the CREF as an international hub of the highest level. All scientific projects also aim to enhance and promote the contribution of young researchers to scientific research.
