Photonics Laboratory

The Computational Photonics Laboratory is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to create the first prototypes of photonic computing machines and to perform the associated optical experiments. The laboratory has stabilized optical tables, laser sources in the visible and near-infrared spectral band, spatial light modulators for visible and infrared light, optical detectors, optical components and optomechanical accessories. There are workstations based on conventional calculators dedicated to theoretical investigation, numerical simulations and data analysis. For the engineering of physical computing platforms, consisting of photonic systems characterized by disorder and non-linearity, the laboratory makes use of collaborations with prestigious international research institutes such as the ETH in Zurich and the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, as well as of facilities present in the Institute of Complex Systems ISC of the CNR in Rome.
