third mission

The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.

Riccardo Piombo

I am a postdoctoral researcher at CREF, where I study optimal transport in economic complexity and analyze mutualistic systems through a statistical mechanics approach. Previously, I conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in the field of neuromorphic computing, focusing on the study of specific heterostructures based on chalcogenides and phase-change materials (GST-225) for the design of components intended for non-conventional computational architectures (neuromorphic devices and memristors) that go beyond the von Neumann paradigm.

I obtained a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” where I studied Silver Fluorides, a family of compounds with electronic properties similar to those of superconducting cuprates. Previously, I completed an M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics at the same institution, specializing in charge-transfer transitions and valence instabilities in Silver Fluorides.
