CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.
Higher education and projects for young researchers
On May 16th, the Enrico Fermi Research Center will host a workshop for the International Day of Light, organized by the Young Minds group of Via Panisperna and aimed at PhD students and post-docs in Physics who are interested in Optics and Photonics courses.
The International Day of Light, proclaimed in 2015 by UNESCO in honour of the anniversary of the creation of the first laser in the world by T.H. Maiman in 1960, aims to promote the central role of light and light-based technologies in science, culture, education and sustainable economic development. In honour of this occasion, the Italian Society of Physics (SIF) and the Italian Society of Optics and Photonics (SIOF) encourage the creation of events organized by young students and doctoral students and dedicated to their training, such as workshops, seminars, round tables, talks and study days.
The CREF Young Minds group has decided to organize a day of talks, workshops and internal tours at Centro Fermi from 9 am to 5 pm.
During the morning, some topics regarding Optics and Photonics will be explored in depth through multiple talks held by professors, men and women researchers from Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, National Research Council and directly from CREF.
In the early afternoon, a round table will allow guests to discuss Photonics between Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information.
Two convivial moments are planned, a mid-morning coffee break and a light lunch, to allow participants to meet and discuss directly with the experts.
In the afternoon, those registered for the event will be involved in a workshop regarding the topics learned in the morning. The day will end with a tour of the Fermi Museum and the Computational Photonics laboratory and with greetings from the Young Minds group.
The entire day will also be in English to allow foreign students to participate.
