third mission

The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.

Extreme Energy Events Projets Laboratory

The laboratory of Extreme Energy Events Project Bringing Science to Schools (EEE) houses a telescope capable of detecting and tracking the cosmic rays that pass through it. The telescope consists of three gas detectors of the Multigap Resistive Plate Chamber type with a large surface area (about 2 m2), equipped with appropriate front-end electronics and readout for data acquisition on a PC and subsequent analysis. In particular, the acquired data are transmitted via the network to the data collection and storage centre and analysed in real-time. The laboratory also has ancillary instrumentation, including a digital oscilloscope and various instruments. The telescope is part of a network of 60 telescopes installed throughout Italy, most of them in high schools. In addition to participating in the data collection phases of the EEE project, the laboratory tests new solutions throughout the network. We conduct  guided tours and educational workshops, and activities related to Transversal Skills Paths and PCTO Orientation agreements with schools.
