third mission

The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.

I worked at SLAC (2001-2003, Stanford University) and CERN (2009-2012) in the ALICE experiment.
I was a visiting professor at the IMT Alti Studi of Lucca (2014) for developing “Big Data Analysis using statistical physics methods, agent-based models and complex network algorithms”.

I worked on Monte Carlo Simulations, Complex Networks and Big Data Analysis.
I was part of the team of researchers who set the Internet2 Land Speed Record (entered in the Guinness Book of Records 2004).
I have published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, collecting more than 10,000 citations (source Google Scholar), h-index 43.
I was the Run Coordinator of the Extreme Energy Events (EEE) experiment dedicated to studying cosmic rays. I also dealt with Monte Carlo simulations in the atmosphere to propagate extensive cosmic air showers.
I studied the optimization of solar cells and, in 2016 and 2017, I was the scientific coordinator of the MAECI Project of Great Relevance, in bilateral collaboration with South Africa, “Plasmonics for a better efficiency of solar cells”.

I am currently responsible for units of a PRIN related to computational photonics. I’m coordinating the project “Climate Change: Artificial Intelligence, Complex Networks and Stochastic Methods for Impact Measurement” to analyse a time series of meteorological data. My current research interests are mainly related to machine learning and artificial intelligence.
