CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.
Higher education and projects for young researchers
Introducing new technologies is radically changing how we work, interact and live. The widespread implementation of generative AI is a recent example, but other technologies could enable many new applications, from quantum computers to mind-controlled prosthetics. The challenge for those involved in education and training is to prepare students to be active, informed and aware citizens. For this reason, the Goethe-Instituts of five European cities have launched the Karriere Quantum project in collaboration with TüftelLab. This German non-profit association deals with STEM education, which CREF has joined as a partner in Rome.
The project involves the participation of European students between the ages of 16 and 18 in a week-long camp on quantum technologies and the German language. The first camp was in Dublin, and three more will occur next year in London, Amsterdam and Madrid.
The second camp will be held in Rome from 3 to 9 November 2024. As partners, we will host the students at the Historical Museum of Physics for a visit accompanied by our researchers.
On Friday 8 November, a pedagogical masterclass will be organized to offer school leaders, teachers and educators the opportunity to learn how to teach new technologies. It will be possible to see what the students and teachers of Karriere Quantum have worked on during their camp: the ideas, games and activities to integrate these topics in an engaging way in the classroom.
The training day will be rounded off by contributions from a multifaceted selection of high-profile speakers who will share their perspectives on how we can best prepare students for the future. Participation for teachers is free upon reservation https://www.goethe.de/ins/it/it/ver.cfm?event_id=26126549
