XX FOOT General Meeting at CREF

The Enrico Fermi Research Center (CREF) hosted the XX General Meeting of the FOOT experiment from June 15 to 17. The event, opened by CREF senior researcher Michela Marafini and Prof. Cristina Morone (University of Rome Tor Vergata), began with a session dedicated to the status of the detector (magnetic spectrometer).

During the second day, the status of the detector upgrade and future data-taking activities was presented. In the afternoon, analysis sessions were held and continued into the third day. The discussions were led by the physics coordinator Marco Toppi (Sapienza University of Rome).

Prof. Mauro Villa (University of Bologna), spokesperson of the experiment, chaired the closing session on the final day, dedicated to reports and discussion.

FOOT (FragmentatiOn Of Target) is an experiment in fundamental and applied physics led by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). Its main goal is to improve the precision of hadron therapy, an advanced cancer treatment, and to study radiation protection for space missions. Within the framework of the project, CREF funds PhD scholarships in physics for young students who wish to pursue research activities in this scientific field.
