The Enrico Fermi Research Center - CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.

On Wednesday, April 8th, the Enrico Fermi Museum welcomed a truly special guest: Rachel Fermi, Enrico Fermi’s granddaughter, who travelled a long way to visit us. Arriving from Scotland, where she lives and works as a photographer, Rachel was deeply moved by the Museum and joined us in retracing the life and work of her renowned grandfather.
The daughter of Giulio, Enrico Fermi’s second child, Rachel never met her grandfather personally, yet she preserves a vivid and affectionate memory of him, enriched by the precious family photographs she brought with her. From a box, much like a treasure chest, emerged group photos and striking portraits that reveal previously unseen moments of life and history.
From this encounter comes the promise of a collaboration: drawing on Rachel’s professional expertise, we will work together to showcase and share these extraordinary photographs, offering new perspectives on the figure of Enrico Fermi.
The memory of Enrico Fermi lives on in the new generations. Rachel visited the Museum with her family, allowing her children to “meet” their great-grandfather by listening to his voice in one of the original videos preserved there.
For the Enrico Fermi Museum, whose mission is to protect and promote the historical legacy of one of the greatest physicists of the twentieth century, maintaining a connection with his heirs is fundamental. And when this encounter happens with such special people as Rachel and her family, the desire to build new projects together arises naturally and immediately.
