The Enrico Fermi Research Center - CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.

On January 21st, 2026, the Enrico Fermi Research Centre (CREF) hosted the annual PhD Day, a cornerstone of our institutional calendar that brings together researchers, welcomes new talent, and reaffirms our mission to promote high-level scientific research and outreach.
The morning began with a warm welcome from our President, Angela Bracco, who highlighted that being a PhD student at CREF means more than just conducting research; it means becoming part of a legacy that dates back to Enrico Fermi himself. Key institutional sessions included guidelines for PhD students on navigating their academic journey, curated by the Advisory Committee, and an overview of the outreach activities, which remain a vital bridge between the scientific community and the public.
The day was dedicated to the students, with a special session for first-year students.
Closing the day’s session, the Scientific Director reaffirmed CREF’s dedication to funding PhD fellowships and urged doctoral candidates to engage with the institution’s research community and public engagement initiatives.
