CREF promotes original and high-impact lines of research, based on physical methods, but with a strong interdisciplinary character and in relation to the main problems of the modern knowledge society.
The CREF was born with a dual soul: a research centre and a historical museum. Its aim is to preserve and disseminate the memory of Enrico Fermi and to promote the dissemination and communication of scientific culture.
Higher education and projects for young researchers
For the past three years, the Enrico Fermi Research Centre, in agreement with the three public universities of Rome (Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Roma Tre), has been promoting a high-level training programme for young scientists by financing doctoral fellowships in physics and electronics. The agreements provide for training and research activities linked to the main scientific lines of development of the institution and of interest to the affiliated universities. The doctoral students carry out their scientific work mainly at the CREF itself, which provides them with premises, logistical support and IT equipment dedicated to the higher education project. There are currently 18 doctoral students participating in this programme.
The training programme also involves the active participation of the above-mentioned doctoral students in the museum’s activities, with specific training provided by the Museum Committee dedicated to Enrico Fermi and the dissemination of scientific culture.
